Managing your finances should happen in the language you think in. For millions of Francophone Canadians, that means French. Skwad is now available in French Canadian — change your language in Settings today.
Pourquoi le français canadien / Why French Canadian
Canada is officially bilingual, and the financial realities of Canadian users span both languages. Quebec alone has more than 8 million residents, the majority of whom are primary French speakers. New Brunswick, parts of Ontario, Manitoba, and communities across Canada have significant Francophone populations who navigate their financial lives primarily in French.
Personal finance apps have historically been built for English-speaking North American markets. The terms, the prompts, the interface copy — all of it defaults to English. For Francophone users, that means running their household budget in a second language. It’s manageable, but it adds friction to something that’s already not easy.
Skwad’s French Canadian localization removes that friction. Every screen, every label, every prompt, every notification is available in French. The experience is complete, not partial — you won’t hit English pockets in the middle of a French session.
Ce qui est traduit / What’s translated
The French Canadian translation covers the full Skwad experience across both web and mobile:
Navigation and core UI: All navigation elements, tab labels, page headings, and action buttons are translated. The main navigation, sidebar, and top-level menus are all in French.
Transaction management: Transaction labels, category names, filter options, and action prompts are all available in French. When you categorize a transaction, add a memo, or apply a tag, the interface is in your language.
Budget screens: Budget category labels, budget period controls, progress indicators, and the budget review flow are all translated. Creating and reviewing budgets is a fully French-language experience.
Account management: Account setup, account types, balance tracking, and account settings are all available in French.
Recurring transactions: The recurring dashboard, including calendar labels, summary cards, and transaction type indicators, is translated.
Reports and analysis: Spending reports, breakdowns, and filter interfaces are available in French. Review your financial data in the language that makes the analysis feel natural.
Settings: The full settings panel — integration settings, automation configuration, notification preferences, account management — is available in French.
Notifications: Push notifications and alert messages are delivered in your selected language.
Error messages and confirmations: Validation messages, confirmation dialogs, and error states are translated. Nothing falls back to English unexpectedly.
Comment changer votre langue / How to change your language
Changing your app language in Skwad takes about ten seconds:
- Open Skwad on your phone or in your browser
- Navigate to Settings (Paramètres)
- Find the Language (Langue) option
- Select Français (Canada)
- The app will reload in French immediately
The change applies across all your devices. If you use Skwad on both your phone and in a browser, both will reflect the language change once they refresh.
If you ever want to switch back to English, the process is the same — Settings > Language > English (US). Your financial data is completely unaffected by language changes.
Le français dans le contexte financier canadien / French in the Canadian financial context
One thing that makes French Canadian localization different from simply translating from American English is the financial context. Canadian personal finance has its own terminology, its own institutions, and its own conventions that don’t map exactly to either American English or European French.
A REER is not just a “retirement account” — it’s a registered retirement savings plan with specific rules, contribution limits, and tax treatment that Canadians understand natively. A compte-chèques is a chequing account in the Canadian banking sense. GST and QST are the tax structures Quebec and Canadian consumers deal with.
We built Skwad’s French Canadian localization using terms that reflect how Canadian Francophones actually talk about money, not a direct translation of American financial English. The goal is that the app feels like it was made for you — because, now, it was.
Pour les équipes bilingues / For bilingual households and teams
Skwad supports multiple users within a Skwad team — designed for households, couples, and family financial management. Different members of the same team can use different language settings without affecting each other.
If you and your partner speak different languages, each of you can use Skwad in your preferred language. The shared financial data — transactions, budgets, accounts — is the same for both of you. The language of the interface reflects each user’s preference individually.
This makes Skwad practical for mixed-language households, which are common in Canada, and for financial teams where individuals have different language preferences.
Skwad et le marché canadien / Skwad and the Canadian market
Canada has some unique characteristics that make it an important market for personal finance tools, and we’ve been building for Canadian users since the beginning.
Canada’s banking system is dominated by a small number of large institutions — the Big Six banks — alongside credit unions, regional banks, and newer fintech entrants. SimpleFin and alternative connection methods work well for many Canadian bank accounts. Skwad’s email scanning works with transaction alerts from TD, RBC, Scotiabank, BMO, CIBC, National Bank, and many others.
The French Canadian language addition is part of our broader commitment to the Canadian market. Learn more about why Skwad is the best budget app for Canadians. Combined with SimpleFin support, Plaid coverage for major Canadian institutions, and a feature set designed around Canadian financial realities, Skwad is increasingly built for Canadian users.
Ce qui vient ensuite / What’s coming next
The launch of French Canadian marks Skwad’s first non-English language, but it won’t be the last. The underlying translation infrastructure is built to support additional languages as our user base grows.
If you’re a Skwad user in a region or language community that isn’t yet supported, reach out to us. User demand is a significant factor in how we prioritize new language additions. French Canadian rose to the top because of consistent feedback from Francophone users — and that model applies for other languages too.
If you’re an existing Skwad user: Settings > Language > Français (Canada). The app will reload immediately.
If you’re new to Skwad and prefer to manage your finances in French, you can set your language preference during onboarding. You can always change it later in Settings.
Bienvenue sur Skwad. Vos finances, dans votre langue.
